Management of renewable natural resources and the corresponding policy formulation should be founded on reliable data and information. This refers both to information on the resource itself and to information on the market situation. In this paper, we present methodology and major results of an inventory of the Guadua resources, in a study area of about 1 million ha within the Coffee Region of Colombia. This inventory produced for the first time sample-based statistical estimations of the Guadua area and growing stock. In the study area, land cover of Guadua patches was estimated to be 3.9% or about 40,000 ha (minimum patch area 0.3 ha). This is higher than figures published earlier. Estimation for mean number of standing culms (including shoots and dry culms) per hectare was 6,940 with a mean diameter at breast height of 10.8 cm, apparent commercial volume of 654 m3/ha, commercial wood volume of 304 m3/ha, oven-dry biomass of 311 ton/ha, and total carbon stock of 156 ton/ha. While the low-intensity sampling approach worked well and may serve as an example for similar studies, we identified a number of issues for further research, particularly in what refers to as the basic mensurational models for Guadua volume and biomass estimation from inventories. 相似文献

have a direct bearing on environmental quality. This paper gives a detailed account of the dynamic change in forest resources

and the development and use of major forest resources. In addition, it analyses the current situation of China’s environment
and explores the main contributing factors based on the overall environmental situation. To achieve sustainable management
of forest resources and improve the environment in China, the Chinese Government attaches great importance to the protection
and development of forest resources as well as to environmental development and improvement. The paper gives an overview of
current thinking for sustainable forest resource and environmental development in the future and highlights the current focus

This article analyzes the relationship between forest resources, refugees, and the host population. The findings of the research
suggest that the host population are heavily dependent on the local forest for their daily needs such as fuelwood, timber,
grazing area, fodder for domestic animals, foods, and medicine in addition to cultural and esthetic needs. The forest has
also been relied upon for agricultural needs such as manufacture of agricultural tools, maintenance of irrigation water systems,
erosion control, and fertilizer needs. The forest was under a sustained demand as any other Terai forest of Nepal. After the
arrival of refugees in 1992, the demand for forest resources increased substantially. Initially, the construction of the refugee
camps decreased the total forest area and also required some felling of trees. More significantly, the refugees themselves
became active users of the forest resource, which generated extra pressure on the forest and created scarcity of forest resources.
Before the arrival of the refugees, forest management and monitoring of illegal use of the forest resources were carried out
by the government through its local forester office. The local residents were active users of the forest resources, but were
passive in managing and maintaining the forest resource. However, competition from the refugees instilled a desire in the
local population to safeguard and protect the dwindling resource against the external threat by creating the Humse Dumse Community

Phenological transects were employed to assess monthly leaf, flower, unripe fruit and ripe fruit abundance for a total of 1732 individual plants within five tropical forest habitats at the ‘Lago Caiman Research Camp’, Noel Kempff Mercado National Park, northeastern Santa Cruz Department, Bolivia. Fruit surveys along trails were conducted concomitantly to assess fruit availability for the resident terrestrial frugivore community. The results of the two methodologies are compared and discussed with respect to wildlife and forest management in the region. Phenological transects revealed that Cerrado forest, tall forest, low vine forest, Sartenejal (swamp) forest, and pied mont (premontane) forest, showed seasonal variations in flower, unripe fruit and ripe fruit abundance, however, the broad temporal patterns were significantly different across habitats. Seasonal variation in overall foliage abundance was only marked for Cerrado forest. Ripe fruit production within the study site was not significantly different across months, with different habitats peaking asynchronously in abundance. From a frugivory perspective, overall ripe fleshy fruit abundance also varied considerably between habitats, and again showed asynchronous peaks in habitat production. However, both methodologies revealed the early dry season (June–July) as a period of ripe fleshy fruit scarcity throughout the study area. This period represents a resource ‘bottleneck’ for the resident frugivore community and phenological results allowed the identification of a number of keystone fruit resources for the region. Furthermore, fruit resources which are super-abundant in the early–mid wet season (November–February) might also be considered keystone resources for the region, given that they are available in an otherwise fruit scarce forest. The dynamic spatial patterning of fruit availability at Lago Caiman suggests that certain habitats might be considered keystone habitats, since they provide the majority of fruit resources on a seasonal basis. Finally, the potential of phenological information in tropical forest management plans is discussed and underlined by the observation that rainfall in itself fails to predict fruit availability in the dominant habitats at Lago Caiman. 相似文献
